Pet Food Bank

At times many families go through a difficult financial period where they could use a helping hand when it comes to caring for their pets. At the Humane Society, because we prefer that your pets remain in your home with you and your family – rather than having to make the difficult choice to surrender them to us because you cannot afford the cost of food – we offer a food bank service. This service is intended to be for short-term emergencies rather than ongoing feeding of your animals.

Effective July 1, 2018, our Pet Food Bank will move to the Downtown Mission’s Food Bank at 875 Ouellette Avenue. Pet food pick up will be available Tuesday through Friday, between the hours of 10:00 A.M. and 3:00 P.M. Pet Food Bank usage will be subject to the Downtown Mission’s policies and procedures. Please note that food must be picked up and cannot be delivered.

Another community pet food bank is available through Feeding Windsor.  The food bank is located at 999 Drouillard, Windsor (at New Song Church) and is open Wednesdays and Saturdays from 2pm to 5pm.

Want to help pets in the community whose owners are going through a rough time?  Please consider donating a bag of dog or cat food to the food bank.  Opened food is accepted (please close securely and label if not in the original bag), and any brand is appreciated.  While the food bank is now operated out of the Downtown Mission, pet food for the food bank is still accepted at the Humane Society.  However, if possible, please bring pet food donations directly to the Downtown Mission at 875 Ouellette Ave, on weekdays only. The Feeding Windsor food bank also welcomes donations of pet food at their location on Drouillard from Tuesday to Friday from 8am to 1pm.
