Amy Long  - My childhood and lifelong best friend.   |2010-08-03 05:23:45
I would just like to say that I had the best experience resulting from an
adoption from the Humane Society. I was five years old at the time and my
parents decided to adopt a dog so one Saturday in January we went to the Humane
Society... we were taken there as a surprise and, sure enough after searching
through all of the dogs there he was, a Collie/Cocker Spaniel mix that we named
Brandy. Brandy was already two years old but he was the best dog anyone could
have...he was very much our family pet but in the end was more my dog... Being
that I am the youngest, I felt he had to protect me so every night at bed time I
would fall asleep with him in my room. Now I know he would end up leaving
through the night but he would always be there in the morning when I woke up.
Then during school he would walk me to the bus stop which was the end of our
driveway and wait there until I got on the bus. I loved Brandy sooooo much as
did the rest of my family... he was one of the best dogs ever. But of course, we
had a long 16 years with Brandy but old age caught up to him and so did cancer
and when I was 16/17ish we had to put Brandy down. I miss him every day but I
am happy that the Humane Society was there to let me have this amazing
experience with our great dog Brandy!!

These two sisters were adopted by us in March. Both cats are doing great. We are
glad that we took both together and did not split them up; they are inseparable.
The two little "ladies" are doing fine and are both growing to be big
cats.
Udhav Gaitonde  - Our new Dog Tucker!   |2010-06-24 05:10:26
We first went to the Humane Society, not having the intention of adopting a pet,
but when we saw Tucker we just fell in love with him! He was dropped of the same
day, and we adopted him 2 weeks later, after having a trial period. It was as if
he had been dropped off only for us!

Since we adopted him, he has been a
great dog. He always listens, and he is very quiet. He just loves his walks! We
are a very happy family now.

My husband and I bought a house with a fenced in back yard in Kingsville in
2006. We wanted a medium sized dog to join our family. I visited the humane
society during the day and found no medium sized dogs. The dogs in the large
cages were barking like crazy. I asked if there were any more dogs and the girl
took me to the other side of the building where all of the dogs were labelled
aggressive. I spoke to one very large labrador retriever dog ,who was not
barking, and he looked at me and perked up his ears but did not bark. I asked
him to sit and he sat down quietly. I was amazed at how much self control this
dog had. I asked him if he wanted to go outside and he barked but only one
short bark but remained seated. Outside, he also showed self control which told
me that someone had spent time to train this dog. I had my husband go to the
Humane Society to check him out that afternoon. He brought his buddy from work
and they both agreed that this was a great family pet. Apparently, the owners
had to surrender him because of allergies. When we went to pick up Cole the
next day, the lady told us that it was a good thing that we had come because he
had been there for a month already. He has proven to be a great family pet and
he even though he is not a barker, he did wake us up one night when our
neighbour's house had caught fire. He knew there was danger even before the
firefighters had been called. We are so happy to have Cole as part of our
family and now he is 8 years old and loves to go to for a walk along the beach
with us every day. I encourage anyone who is looking to purchase an animal to
adopt one that needs a home.

Twelve years ago we adopted a female Jack Russell named Kelsey who gave us many
years of enjoyment. Unfortunately this past year she went downhill in her health
and we had to put her to rest on April 6, 2010. It was very hard for us as she
had been a big part in this family. We will miss her deeply but know that she
has gone to Rainbow Bridge to enjoy her life of leisure.
Mila Valli  - Noelle\'s Story   |2010-05-20 05:48:55
About a week before Christmas in 2009 a small black and white kitten showed up
in our back yard. It was dirty, scared and we feared that it would either be
hit by a car on the nearby busy main road or freeze to death. Already having
three cats and not knowing anything about this little stray, I was not
comfortable bringing her in my home, so I hoped that maybe it belonged to one of
my neighbors and would return home. Later that night as my sister and I rounded
the corner on our road we watched in horror as the little kitten from my yard
was almost hit by a passing car. Fearing for its safety, we spent the next two
hours outside with treats and a blanket and trapped the little thing. We called
every rescue in the area and they were all full, but the humane society was nice
enough to take in the little straggler and we agreed to foster her until a place
in the shelter became available. Noelle received a clean bill of health, was
spayed and three months later when it came time for our little foster girl to
find her new family, we realized that she was already home and adopted her
ourselves. The humane society took a chance on a little stray kitty when no one
else would and gave her a chance at finding a loving forever home. She has
completed our little furr family and we could not image our home without her.

Thanks to the wonderful people at the Windsor Humane Society, our family has
located our lost dog. We were here visiting, when our dog Daisey got loose from
us on the 7th of May. We put up posters everywhere with no luck. Our children
and other dog were heartbroken. We got a call from one of the volunteers named
Gail, that they might have found my dog and then received an e-mail picture from
her and Denise. It was our lost Daisey. What a wonderful bunch of people who
work there, to go out of their way to contact her family. Thank you from our
family, now our lives can go on happily again.
Beau & Lisa  - Our "Rocky"   |2010-04-29 04:00:42
It's been almost a year since we adopted an energetic black Lab named Rocky. We
could not be happier to have Rocky as part of our family. I can't figure out
for the life of me why his previous family put him up for adoption but I would
like to send them my heartfelt thanks :) We have the best dog in the world and
it's all because of the Humane Society. Thank you very much!

I got my best friend from the Humane Society when I was three and had him for 14
years. He was the best thing that ever happened to me and my family. He was the
glue to our family. I want to thank you guys for giving me the best 14 years of
my life.
Karen O\'Connor  - Paddy the Dog and the Two Kittens   |2010-03-30 06:46:26
In the last month we fostered two four-month-old kittens. The Humane Society has
been a great help with the adoption process. Then one day last week, I was
on-line and saw a dog Named Paddy. There was something about this boy that made
me know that I had to have him. So, on St Patrick's Day we went to the Humane
Society and adopted Paddy (who is almost 11 years old).He is the world's best
dog. He doesn't bark, he is a great walker on a leash and he is amazing when you
take him to the dog park. He just goes on about what he is doing and doesn't
care what other dogs are doing. Paddy is very muched loved in our house and I am
so glad we adopted him. In total, that's three pets we've adopted from the
Humane Society in the past month - and our pet family is complete! Paddy is no
guard dog either - he is a gentle giant. My in-laws came over the other day to
let him out and they said, "Your dog never even barked or got up when we
went into the house."
I am so glad we adopted Paddy; he is loved very much.
I have never had a dog or a cat before. The staff at the Humane Society was so
helpfull.
