foster program

Our foster volunteers are an important part of our volunteer team. Foster volunteers temporarily care for animals in their home until the animal is ready to move into adoption at the Humane Society. Foster animals are often too young to go into adoption, require time to heal after a surgery, or need a little extra work on behaviour and socialization. We provide all the supplies, food, litter, leashes, and medical care – you provide the space and love.

Fostering is an incredibly rewarding experience that can make a huge difference in the life of an animal in need. Whether you have experience with animals or are new to the world of fostering, our shelter will provide you with all the resources you need to ensure that your foster animal is happy and healthy.

Fostering an animal can be a great way to teach children about compassion, responsibility, and the importance of animal welfare. It is a fun and rewarding experience that can bring joy and companionship to your entire family. It’s also a great way for snowbirds to enjoy the company of an animal without a long-term commitment.

If you are interested in becoming a foster volunteer, please complete our Foster Sign Up Form. and our Foster Coordinator will contact you via email. Please note, if you are a current foster volunteer with WECHS, you do not need to resubmit the form. Please email the Foster Coordinator for the kitten on-deck survey if you are a current foster ready to take a foster home.

Please note that new foster sign ups are reviewed weekly, so it may be a few days before you hear from our Foster Coordinator. If you don’t hear back, be sure to check your email’s junk mail in case the email went there (or add foster@windsorhumane.org to your address book!).
