Instead of asking for presents for her 9th birthday, Alivia asked for money to help out the animals at the Humane Society. She raised an amazing $300!! That money will go a long way to helping the animals in our care. Thank you for your generosity Alivia!

February 25 is World Spay Day, an international day to encourage the spaying and neutering of companion animals. Since it opened late in 2011 we have spayed or neutered almost 9,000 animals. For more information about the clinic please visit www.windsorhumanevetclinic.org. In the past few year throughout Windsor and Essex County veterinary clinics and the Humane Society have seen a dramatic increase in the incidences of parvovirus in dogs and panleukopenia in cats. Both of these viruses are extremely contagious, and typically fatal if left untreated. Sadly, it is likely that this increase can be attributed to too many unvaccinated dogs and cats because both diseases are completely preventable with routine vaccinations. The Humane Society urges all pet owners to ensure that their dogs and cats have current vaccinations.
To help increase the number of animals who are vaccinated in our community, a number of veterinary clinics have stepped forward to participate in a special vaccine drive. The following clinics are offering a special for two weeks only from February 15-28, where a brief exam and basic vaccines (rabies and DA2PP vaccines for dogs; rabies and FVRCP vaccines for cats) will be available for $50 (plus tax). Pet owners must call the clinics directly to book an appointment. Clinic reserve the right to limit appointments under this promotion.

The Windsor/Essex County Humane Society is getting into the Olympic spirit with a special adoption promotion. During the entire winter games, adopters will have the chance to win 10 percent, 25 percent, or even 50 percent off their adoption fee! When Canada wins, our adopters win because they’ve found a new best friend, and the animals win because they’ve found a forever home.
Whenever a Canadian athlete wins a medal, all adopters who applied to adopt in the day (24 hours) prior to the win will receive a discount on their adoption fee. A gold medal will result in a 50 percent discount, with 25 and 10 percent discounts for silver and bronze. The discount applies to the adoption of any animal, and cannot be combined with any other offers.
