It’s called “Black Animal Syndrome” and it is a problem that plagues Humane Societies across the nation. Black animals have a more difficult time finding their forever homes simply because of their colour. Whether it is due to silly superstition, or because they lack the interesting patterns and colours of other available animals; black cats and dogs can sit waiting for weeks while their lighter coloured friends go home within days. But the Humane Society is trying to change that. This week, on Black Friday, we hope to see black animals become the most popular dogs, cats, and rabbits in our adoption centre. All black animals (anyone with the majority of their fur solid black) will have their adoption fee reduced by 60 percent!
This Black Friday special is one day only, during adoption hours from 11am to 8pm. Rather than fighting the crowds at the mall why not find a loving friend instead? Discounts cannot be combined and do not apply to previously adopted animals.
Once again we are honoured by the hard work and dedication of the staff at the ScotiaBank Tecumseh branch. This year, the staff held an excellent evening of comic entertainment at the Komedy Korner to help raise funds for all the animals in our care. They also collected donations at the branch, held a raffle with some excellent prizes, and sold our Cheer for a Year tickets. ScotiaBank matched the money raised at the branch and donated a total of $8,661.04!!! We couldn’t help animals in our community without the generous donations and support of people and organizations like the staff at ScotiaBank. Thank you so much for the amazing work!

A big thank you to Chase! Instead of asking for gifts for his 7th birthday, he decided to help all the animals at the Humane Society. Chase collected $290 for his birthday and donated it all to the animals. Thank you so much for your generosity Chase!
This holiday season, the Humane Society has cards featuring photographs by Angie Chauvin. Proceeds from the cards support the animals at the Humane Society and all the cards showcase animals that have been adopted in the last year. Cards can be purchased at the Humane Society, 5 cards and envelopes for $10. This holiday season, show your friends and family you support the Humane Society by sending them these lovely cards.
When you buy the StrixNB™ Holiday Package this season, you’ll have the option of selecting the Windsor/Essex County Humane Society to receive a $5 donation from each purchase.

A big thank you to all who contributed to our first Windsor/Essex Humane Society Drive!
Thank you Bronwyn and Catriona Lenover for your generous gift donation. Your donation will go a long way in helping the countless animals that come through our doors. Thank you and Happy birthday!
If you’re looking to get a jump on your holiday shopping and want to support a great local charity at the same time, check out the Windsor/Essex County Humane Society. We will be at two great shows this November, selling our Cheer for a Year lottery tickets, Christmas & note cards featuring the gorgeous work of Angie Chauvin and holiday gift donations, for the person who has everything.
Saturday November 16 – Made in Windsor
As part of Walkerville’s Winter Walkabout, the Made in Windsor Craft Show will be taking place inside the historic Walkerville Brewery from 11am – 6pm. The show will take place all weekend, but stop by Saturday, when we’ll be selling our cards and tickets. Admission is free.
Sunday November 17 – Holiday Gift Show
The Holiday Gift Show will take place at Place Concorde from 11am – 4pm. We are excited to be working with organizers of the show to be the featured charity of the weekend. This isn’t a craft show, rather it features some great local vendors and it’s free to stop by and check it out. We will be selling our cards and lottery tickets. You can also find out about making a charitable donation for the holiday season, whether it’s for yourself or in honour of a friend or family member.
Even as the weather is getting cooler, eleven year old Tegan was able to raised $30 for the Humane Society through a lemonade stand. Thank you Tegan for your hard work!
