A big thank-you goes out to the kids at the Franco-Sol Daycare for raising over $100.00 for the animals at the Humane Society. Here’s a photo from their visit:
This weekend a group of young girls came in to make a donation from their lemonade stand. Thanks to this wonderful group who’ve named themselves the ‘Humane Society Club’ for their donation of $27.26! Great work.
A big thank-you goes out to Caitlyn Todd who came in to donate some various pet care items. She’s 11 years old, and worked in her family’s market over the summer. With the money she earned, she purchased the items in this photo. Way to go Caitlyn– your hard work has certainly paid off for our animals 🙂
A big thank you to 9 year old Sarah who held a benefit concert for the animals at the Windsor/Essex County Humane Society. She played the violin for her friends and family and raised money for the animals in our care at the same time. What a meaningful performance! Thank you Sarah!
Can you put a price on love? This weekend you can!
The Windsor/Essex County Humane Society is hoping to find homes this weekend for dozens of dogs and cats with our first ever choose your own fee event, supported by Petsmart Charities of Canada. Choose your own adoption fee events are frequently seen in the United States, but take place very infrequently in Canada. Historically, animal welfare organizations have worried that when adoption fees are reduced adopters may not feel the same attachment to their adopted animal. However, both practice and research in the US has proven this idea false.
This Saturday and Sunday only adopters of any animal 9 months or older will be able to choose their own adoption fee. Normally adoption fees are $125-245 for pets over 9 months, but this weekend only adopters are free to choose the adoption fee for their new furry friend. All adoptions will still be subject to a $30 administration fee.
Even at these potentially discounted rates all dog and cat adoptions come with the usual great adoption package – spay/neuter surgery, microchip, DA2PP and kennel cough vaccines (dogs) or FVRCP vaccines (cats), deworming, flea treatment, tests for heartworm (dogs) or FeLV/FIV (cats), 6 weeks of health insurance, and post-adoption training classes (dogs)!
Our Adoption Centre will be open 11am to 6pm Saturday and Sunday for adoptions. We are located at 1375 Provincial Road, Windsor. Adoptable animals may be viewed online 24 hours a day at www.windsorhumane.org.
Our Roof is Leaking!
Three years ago, the Windsor/Essex community came together and helped us raise money to build our new Adoption Centre and state-of-the-art Spay/Neuter Clinic, one of the first of its kind in Ontario! Now we need your help again.
The Windsor/Essex County Humane Society is in desperate need of a new roof on the OLD side of our building. Originally built in 1971, the old section of the building is now used as our animal intake areas – where stray, surrendered, and seized animals are first helped and cared for.
So let’s get together and RAISE THE ROOF here for the Windsor/Essex County Humane Society and help the thousands of animals who come through our doors each year. Help keep their paws, whiskers and tails warm and dry. Please donate online today.
